About Us
Air Force Explorers was actived as the 396th Aircrew Training Sq. in 1999 in Phoenix, AZ.
March 15, 1999 - Phoenix, AZ. As a LFL/BSA Career Training Program for young adults wanting to pursue entering one of the Service Academies, an ROTC program or enlist in the U.S. Military, the 396th ATRS is supported by the 161th Air Refueling Wing at Goldwater ANGB, at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.
Over 24 years of Quality Unit Awards!
Consecutively since our establishment in 1999, the Air Force Explorers thru the 396th Aircrew Training Squadron in Phoenix, Arizona has been awarded BSA-Grand Canyon Council's most prestigious Quality Unit Award for Excellence, as well as in 2010 (with over 70 Explorer Units in the State), received the 'Post of the Year Award.'

Vision
The Air Force Explorers Vision is to be the premier Leadership and Military Preparatory Career Education Program for Young Adults whose interest lie in serving their country in the United States Military.

We take a realistic approach in offering similar Air Force Training Courses bringing it down to the Young-Adult level, as well as requiring high personal academic achievement foremost.

Our goal is to motivate all to serve their country in the U.S. Military regardless of which Branch of Service is their preference.

Inspiring our 'Young adults' to serve, starts with requiring Integrity in their own lives, excellence in all they do, and Service to others first.
Community Service
Foremost in our Young Adult training is to inspire their leadership and giving back to the community. Here we volunteered numerous hours to assist the CAF at their Air Show at the Mesa Airport.
CAF & AZ ModelZona Annual Convention
Air Force Explorer Cadets assist with Security and Traffic control, as well as run our Recruiting & Information Booth.
161st Air Refueling Wing
As well as one of our sponsors, the AFX cadets have assisted the 161 ARW on numerous occasions such as 'Wing Family Days'
AZ National Cemetary "Memorial Day' Weekend
Air Force Explorers are proud of their over 20 year tradition of assisting in planting over 50,000 Cemetary Flags for Memorial Day Weekend.
